CALIFORNIA (Lenteratoday)-Aktris Michelle Yeoh mendapat kado istimewa di awal tahun 2023. Sebab, berkat film Everything Everywhere All at Once, Yeoh sukses memenangkan piala Golden Globe Awards pertamanya.
Michelle Yeoh sukses mengalahkan para nominator hebat lainnya, seperti Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu), dan Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande).
Saat menerima piala, Michelle Yeoh menceritakan soal perjalanan kariernya yang tidak mudah di Hollywood. Ia menuturkan, dahulu ada banyak orang yang meremehkan."Selama 40 tahun aku tidak berhenti berkarya. Terima kasih atas piala ini. Sungguh perjalanan berat untuk bisa sampai di titik ini, tapi semua sepadan," ungkap Michelle Yeoh.
"Saat pertama datang ke Hollywood, tidak ada yang mudah, karena aku minoritas. Banyak yang bertanya, 'Memangnya kau bisa bahasa Inggris' dan aku jawab, 'Aku bisa. Perjalanan ke sini 13 jam. Jadi, aku belajar selama di perjalanan'," sambungnya.
Menariknya, ini adalah piala Golden Globe pertama yang Yeoh raih di usia yang tidak lagi muda. Karena itu, ia merasa sangat bersyukur."Tahun lalu, usiaku 60 tahun. Saat usia bertambah, kesempatan semakin sedikit. Aku sempat berpikir, ah sudahlah, setidaknya aku sudah pernah bekerja dengan banyak orang hebat dan itu sudah bagus. Sebelumnya, lawan main Michelle Yeoh di Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan, juga memenangkan piala Golden Globe. Ia memenangkan kategori Best Supporting Actor in Any Motion Picture.
